My siblings and I always enjoyed a game where we would write on each others backs and try guessing what we drew. My grandma would have us sit next to her and she would scratch our backs for long periods of time. These are very sweet memories and I learned early the importance of touch.
Fast forward to me deciding what I wanted to be when I grew up, which did not happen until post motherhood. I decided to go back to school.
During my search of different opportunities offered at our local college, our youngest child was diagnosed with a simple motor tic disorder. We worked with a neurologist and were provided with different options. We decided that the medications they suggested was not an option we were comfortable with.
I had been looking into massage therapy as a possible career choice and asked the doctor if she felt that it would be beneficial to our child. She agreed that it could be a resource worth trying. Off to massage school I went. It was comforting knowing that we could provide our child a more natural and non pharmaceutical option. We also utilized nutrition, supplements and meditation practices.
Along with ample prayer and patience, it was for us, the best choice!
